THIS SHINDIG LOOKS LIKE THE BOMB DIGGITY.

It’s the year 2000 and no aspect of life has been left untouched by the rapid advancement of technology. Wherever you are on Earth, you’ve lived a life where connection through digital spaces is the optimal way to stay involved with friends and family all around the world. Terminally online? That’s you and everyone you know.
In a world dominated by virtual reality and cutting edge digital experiences, people are always on the lookout for new ways to push their real lives further and further out of mind. One such opportunity comes in the latest offering from the notorious CyberConnect Corporation: Fragment, an MMORPG that promises full one-to-one synchronization of one’s consciousness with a vibrant and expansive fantasy world.
The privilege of participating in the testing of such cutting edge technology is one only a select group of randomly selected people from across the world will get to experience. You’re one of those lucky few... but is lucky really the right word? For better or worse, the experience promises to change you forever, and if you’re particularly blessed, you may even survive it.
The World is a short-run, panfandom alternate universe game inspired by the .Hack series. With elements of horror and mystery, The World is a plot-centric game wherein characters will participate in the beta test of Fragment, a mysterious MMORPG that transfers their consciousness from an increasingly dull reality into a flourishing fantasy world where nothing is quite as innocent as it first seems. Player choices play a critical role in shaping the plot and determining the final outcome of the game.
Welcome to The World! This is a short-term game set to run for a period of four months from July 29th to December 2nd. Welcome! This is a private game open to those on milky's (shitpost), Amb's (stellazzio), and Lavender's (revelries) plurk lists and those directly invited by the rest of the mod team.
If you aren't a friend of either head mod but are interested in checking out the game, feel free to request an invitation via the mod contact page. Friends and +1s are given first priority when processing and accepting applications, but if the concept interests you, don't hesitate to let us know!
Do you know what an MMO is? You do? Good. You know all you need to know to play in The World. While this is a game based off of the .Hack franchise, all one needs to know to join are the basics. Any canon-specific terminology and information will be introduced to you through events.

Invite: /waves at like, entire mod team
Considerations: Leviathan (Obey Me!), Idia Shroud (Twisted Wonderland), Partitio Yellowil (Octopath Traveler II), Cyrus Albright (Octopath Traveler)
AU planning:
Levi: A shut-in college student who does long-distance learning but also skips a lot of his classes in favor of his hobbies. Anime, games, idol groups, cosplay...he's a massive otaku and while terminally online is the default here, he still manages to be over the top with it in the real world. He's a cringelord, is what I'm saying. While he's insanely socially awkward offline, he's able to really come out of his shell in the virtual world. MMOs are his bread and butter, and you can count on him to be hardcore in every corner of Fragment.
He's also Beelzebub's older brother and the one who drags him into games for co-op stuff. :)
Idia: Looks at Levi...looks back at this... They're basically the same person LMFAO. The main difference with Idia is that he's an insanely good programmer and even has dreams of designing his own MMO one day. He'd be coming into Fragment with hopes of gaining inspiration for what he does and doesn't want to do with his own game.
He's also an older brother who dotes on his younger brother Ortho a lot. Ortho is basically his only offline friend, so he's very emotionally attached.
Partitio: A young merchant with an incredible sense for commerce. He has the personality of a ray of sunshine and is Extremely Southern. We're talking yee haw and y'ain't and all that good stuff being part of his vernacular. Though money regularly occupies his thoughts, Partitio's business goals only ever involve supporting others' dreams, whether it's helping an inventor find their footing or raising others from poverty. He loves finding solutions to allow everyone to prosper. He'd be very interested in helping get Fragment's economy established!
Hilariously, he'd also be one of the rare tech illiterate people here. Please help this 24 y/o grandpa fumble his way through vidya games.
Cyrus: A charismatic college professor with quite the appetite for knowledge and also sharing that knowledge. He's Very British and very hammy in his delivery. You'd think he's LARPing an old-timey great detective but no, that's just how he is. He loves teaching and also learning from his young students, so he's at least a little in the know of all the tech hubbub even he tends to just browse history sites more than anything.
He'd seem a little out of place in an MMO world since he doesn't usually play games like, at all, but he'd still find a way to have a good time. There is much to be learned, right? And maybe some mysteries to solve?
Questions: N/A for now!
Anything else? IDK help me hash more of this stuff out bc I'm flying by the seat of my pants here. 😂

Bless you Milky...now I know to not be afraid to be cringe and free /s
I think if I do a second character, Partitio would definitely be the perfect balance bc let's be real I think one of the cringelords will be my first. So I will def put a pin in this CR possibility. /eyes emoji

I'm also crying at your two nerds spiderman pointing at one another...they're just the same guy

THEY ARE LITERALLY THE SAME with some minor differences. I'd definitely only play one of them.

On the other hand, you could play both nerds and set them off on two diverging nerd paths, like choose-your-own-adventure weebs, and see which one emerges victorious and which one loses his way... a parable
But no, I'm looking forward to which of your boys we'll see...! Miharu has casual pop culture knowledge, so she'll do her best.
